The
Chesapeake Bay Restoration Fund Advisory Committee was created by
Chapter 749 of the 1995 Acts of Assembly as a permanent committee
of the legislative branch. Chapter
21, Article 2 (§ 10.1-2116) of Title 10.1 of the Code
of Virginia sets out the organization and responsibilities of
the Committee. The purpose of the Committee is to advise the General
Assembly on the expenditure of funds received in the Chesapeake
Bay Restoration Fund. Each year, the Committee reviews applications
for grants to form a list of recommended programs that is presented
to the Governor and General Assembly.
During its
fourth year in operation, the Committee reviewed a total of 60 grant
applications from civic and community groups, environmental organizations,
schools and public agencies. Grant activity in 1999 increased the
total of Committee commitments to $3.3 million since 1995. Most
importantly, more than 300 community groups have shared in these
awards for volunteer restoration and Bay education efforts.
In 2000, the
Division of Legislative Services produced a projects catalogue for
the Chesapeake Bay Restoration Fund Advisory Committee. The catalogue
was put together for the benefit of the community and government
agencies to better understand the role of the Chesapeake Bay Restoration
Fund Advisory Committee, the Chesapeake Bay Restoration Fund, and
where the money is allocated each year. For a brief
overview of the catalogue, click here. A complete copy of the
catalogue is available for downloading below.
